El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant Webster

El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant-Webster didn’t became talented over night; it took a lot of practice and determination from all the mariachi members. To begin with, our mariachi practices 4 days a week for 2 1/2 hours a day Tuesday through Friday. They play the same songs over and over again to memorize them. Therefore, whenever they perform they will try not to make any mistakes and will play professionally. The school mariachi has won 2nd place in the mariachi festival and some other awards for their performance. Second, they practice and learn from 5 professional mariachi instructors. The school pays the instructors to come and teach the students. Finally, El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant-Webster is to memorize about 13 classical mariachi songs, depending on their level. The 3 types of levels for the mariachi students are: beginners, intermediate, and the advanced.
The students who join the mariachi play one of the five instruments a regular mariachi would play. The students have the opportunity to play the guitarron, the vihuela, violin, the trumpet or the guitar. When the students join the mariachi, they must pay a fee of $40 per semester. This money helps pays the professionals instructors that come and teach the students. The students do not have to pay for the uniforms and instruments because they are lended to them.
The students that join the mariachi not only learn to play instruments but also travel to many different places. Last year, 2005-2006, the students had the opportunity to visit Albuquerque, New Mexico, Keystone, Colorado, and the Mayor’s Office. El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant-Webster had the opportunity to play for the queen of Jordan.
In conclusion, our mariachi is worth joining, it is a wonderful experience and gives all the students a taste of Mexican and musical culture.
